Let’s Celebrate Family Literacy Day!
Family Literacy Day® is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.
Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
This year, BCCALC is running two events to celebrate this important day!
On January 24, Tuesday, we are hosting a Family Game Night in partnership with Oyen Municipal Library. The event runs from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Library. There will be snacks and prizes for the whole family!
January 27, Friday, is Family Literacy Day! All day, we are running an online event called #ReadFor15 wherein families are challenged to read anything for 15 minutes, take a photo, and post it online via our Facebook page or Twitter using #ReadFor15BigCountry. Afterwards, there will be a random draw for the winner of a $50 gift card!
We’re very excited and hope that you and your family will join us!
